School Programs

The Center's School Programs offer the ideal setting for children with differing needs to flourish. Sargent Center specializes in addressing physical, cognitive and medical needs of a diverse student population.  Our staff of professionals are specially trained to teach children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, Brain Injury, Genetic Disorder(s), Developmental Disabilities, and Behavioral Health. The staff understands how these conditions impact learning and behavior.  Sargent's team of professionals have developed strategies and techniques that allow children to overcome the barriers that have traditionally restricted their success. The Center's strong family focused approach permits staff to work with the family to reinforce success at home and in the community.

Kids in a groupThe School Programs consist of all grade levels from preschool through high school and offers a robust transition program preparing students for daily living involving school, community, businesses and a post-secondary experience at New England Institute of Technology.  Additional education programs include a special brain injury program, the unique Pontus Program specializing in a clinical step-down behavioral approach, and summer programing. The Center's interdisciplinary team  combines regular and special education, related services that include speech, physical and occupational therapy, regular and adaptive physical education, vocational training, transition services with school to community job experiences, and a full compliment of extracurricular activities that include: theatre arts, martial arts, a structured swim program, professional soccer instruction by the New England Revolution Professional Soccer Organization, sailing, gardening, cooking, art, and on campus recreational and special events.

teacher and Student Enrollment at Sargent Center can be for a short-term placement or longer. Some students are able to return to their community school following a short enrollment in a Sargent Center program. Sargent Center staff work closely with local school districts to ensure students continue to receive the support they need when returning to their community school setting.  Other students join our programs at varying stages of their education and continue their studies, work trial experiences and development until age 22.
